The First Avenger is the start of the star-spangled hero’s story. Taking place during World War II, it follows Steve Rogers as he goes from military reject to Captain America himself. Opposing him is the nazi Red Skull and his Hydra army. But the Captain isn’t alone either. He has his best friend, Bucky Barnes. He has his rag-tag team of allies called the Howling Commandos. And he has the help of Peggy Carter and Howard Stark. Although this movie takes place decades before the modern MCU setting, some of its storylines continue throughout other films.

Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) must pick a side.
